LAUREL - COMMERCIAL WOOD Laurel (Kalmia latifolia) is a fine-grained hardwood, produced in small quantities in the Southern mountains. It is nearly as hard as dogwood, and as heavy as white oak. It is not available in large sizes nor in great quantity; but such factory uses as are reported for the small amount consumed are as indicated in Table 90.
