TUPELO - COMMERCIAL WOOD Tupelo (Nyssa aquatica) is one of the softer hardwoods of medium weight, close-grained and difficult to split, but with very good working qualities. It grows chiefly in the cypress regions, and is manufactured and graded by the same interests as cypress. Only recently has tupelo come into general notice, but its progress has been rapid, as will be seen from its present factory uses as indicated in Table 103.
