ALFELD, chief town of a subdivision of the district of Hildesheim, in the Prussian province of Hanover, on the river Leine, about 15m. S.S.W. of Hildesheim. Pop. (1933) 7,221. It has a handsome church with twin spires. Its industries embrace paper-making, iron-founding and the production of agricultural machinery.
