GADS, FRIEDRICH ), German diplomat, born on Feb. 18, 1881, at Brunswick. He became in 1923 director of the legal department in the government, and was concerned in the preparation of German diplomatic documents from the end of the war onwards, but notably in questions of disarmament and of justice. He took part in the Genoa (1922) and London (1924) conferences and acted as legal adviser to the German government in the preparation of the Locarno treaties.
