GLACIER BAY NATIONAL MONUMENT, a reserva tion (1,820 sq.m. in area) in south-eastern Alaska, extends inland from Glacier bay to include Muir and Brady glaciers and ice covered peaks of the first rank, among which are Mts. Fair weather, Lituya, La Perouse and several others. Besides con taining tidewater glaciers of first rank, the region is also valuable as a field of scientific study of glacier behaviour, of resulting move ments and the development of flora and fauna after glacial retreat.
