GODESBERG, a spa in Rhenish Prussia on the left bank of the Rhine, 4 m. S. of Bonn, on the railway to Coblenz. Pop. 23,667. It is a summer resort and has chalybeate springs. On a hill close by are the ruins of Godesberg castle. Built by Archbishop Dietrich I. of Cologne in the 13th century, it was destroyed by the Bavarians in 1583. Among its manufactures are electrical apparatus, agricultural machinery and toys.
