GOMERA, an island forming part of the Spanish archi pelago of the Canary islands (q.v.). Pop. (193o) 25,405; area, 144 sq.m. Gomera lies 20 M. W.S.W. of Teneriffe. Its greatest length is about 23 m. Dromedaries are bred on Gomera in large numbers. San Sebastian (5,868) is the chief town and a port. It was visited by Columbus on his first voyage of discovery in 1492.
