GOZZI, GASPARO, COUNT brother of Carlo Gozzi, was born at Venice on Dec. 4, 1713. He married Luise Ber galli, who undertook the management of the theatre of Sant' Angelo, Venice, for which he provided the plays, chiefly adapta tions from the French. He published the Gazzetta Veneta and the Osservatore Veneto (1761, seq.), modelled on Addison's Spectator and written in pure and graceful Italian. His Di f esa di Dante marked the beginning of the revival of the study of Dante. He died at Venice on Dec. 26, 1786.
