GOOCH, GEORGE PEABODY (1873— ), English historian, was educated at King's college, London, and Trinity college, Cambridge, and continued his studies in Berlin and Paris. He was Liberal M.P. for Bath (1906-1o), and for Reading (1913). He was joint editor of the Contemporary Review (19,, onwards) ; president of the Historical Association (1922-25) ; and joint editor of the British Documents on the Origins of the War, (1926, etc.). Gooch has made a special study of modern German history, and is one of the first English authorities on the subject.
