GRADO, an island of the province of Trieste, Italy, 4 m. from Belvedere. Pop.

(I 93I) 5,849. The inhabitants of Aquileia took shelter there in 452 and 568 and the patriarchate of Grado began in and continued till 1451 when it passed to Venice. The cathedral was rebuilt in 571– 586; it has a fine mosaic pavement.
