GRAYS THURROCK or GRAYS, an urban district of Essex, England, on the Thames, 20 m. E. by S. from London by the L.M.S. railway. Pop. (1931) 18.172. The church of St. Peter and St. Paul retains some Norman work. The Gray family held the manor for three centuries from 1149. Roman remains have been found in the vicinity; and some quarries contain large mam malian remains. The town has trade in lime and cement.
