GREENVILLE, a city of eastern North Carolina, U.S.A., on the Tar river; the county seat of Pitt county. It is served by the Atlantic Coast Line and the Norfolk Southern railways. The population was in 1920 (49% negroes) and was 9,194 in 193o by the Federal census. It is a shipping point for tobacco and other agricultural products, and is the seat of the East Carolina Teachers college (established 1907).
