GUANAJAY, a town of western Cuba, in Pinar del Rio prov ince. about 36m. (by rail) S.W. of Havana. Pop. (1931 census) 14,695. Guanajay is served by the west branch of the United rail ways of Havana, of which it is the west terminus. The town lies among hills, has an excellent climate, and in colonial times was an acclimatization station for troops; it now has considerable repute as a health resort.
