GUITTONE D'AREZZO (c. Italian poet. Fra Guittone, who belonged to the religious and military order of the Cavalieri di Santa Maria, wrote sonnets and love poems, which can be studied in a good modern edition, Le rime di Fra Guittone (1901), by Pelligrini. He is more famous as the writer of the earliest extant letters written in the Italian language; they are addressed to various eminent contemporaries.
