GUNG'L, JOSEF (1810-1889), Hungarian composer and conductor, was born on Dec. 1, 181 o, at Zsambek, Hungary. He was bandmaster in an Austrian regiment, but in 1843 established an orchestra in Berlin, with which he toured Europe and America. He died at Weimar on Jan. 31, 1889. Gung'l's dances number over 300, perhaps the most popular being the "Amoretten" and "Dreams on the Ocean" waltzes.
