GUYNEMER, GEORGES ), French aviator, born in Paris on Dec. 24, 1894, was the most famous of all the aviators on the French side in the World War. His courage, his gaiety, his 53 victories over enemy aviators, and his death in a battle in the air above Poelcapelle on Sept. 11, 1917, made him a popular hero.
