HAAKON VII. (1872- ), the second son of Frederick VIII., king of Denmark, was born on Aug. 3, 1872, and was known as Prince Charles of Denmark. In 1905 he accepted the throne of Norway, crowned as Haakon VII at Trondhjem in June 1906. He married Maud, youngest daughter of Edward VII of England. Their son, the crown prince Olav (b. 1903), married in 1929 Princess Martha of Sweden, and had issue Ragnhild Alexandra Astrid Maud Ingelborg (193 2) and Harald (1937).
