HATTINGEN, a town in the Prussian province of West phalia, on the river Ruhr, 21 m. N.E. of Dusseldorf. Pop. (1931) 14,825. Hattingen, which received communal rights in 1396, was one of the Hanse towns. The manufactures include tobacco, and iron and steel goods.
