HAVELBERG, a town in the Prussian province of Branden burg, on the Havel just above its junction with the Elbe. Pop. (1925) 5,408. Havelberg was formerly a strong fortress and changed hands frequently during the Thirty Years' War. The town was incorporated in 1875, and is built partly on an island in the Havel, and partly on hills on the right bank of the river, on one of which stands the fine Romanesque cathedral dating from the 12th century.
