HECATAEUS OF ABDERA (or of Teos) (fl. 4th century B.e.), Greek historian and Sceptic philosopher, accompanied Ptolemy I. Soter to Syria, and sailed up the Nile to Thebes with him. His travels were described in AlyvirnaKa and IIEpi `Tirep(3op&ov, which were used by Diodorus Siculus.
