HEDGEBOT or HAYBOTE, an ancient legal term sig nifying the right of a tenant or copyholder to take or cut wood for specific purposes such as the repairs of fences and hedges for the upkeep of the premises as distinguished from the cutting of timber for building purposes, which constituted an infringement of the law.
