HAVENSTEIN, RUDOLF (1857-1923), German financier, was born at Meswitz on March b o, 1857, the son of an official in the Prussian judicial department. He studied at Heidelberg and Berlin and entered the judicial service, transferring in 1890 to the Ministry of Finance. He became president of the Prussian State bank in 1900, and in 1908 succeeded Koch as president of the Reichsbank, the affairs of which he conducted during the critical war and post-war periods. He was blamed for giving excessive credits after the war and thus conducing to the dete rioration of the currency. He died in Berlin on Nov. 20, 1923.
