HALL, SAMUEL CARTER (180o-1889), English journal ist, was born at Waterford, the son of an army officer. In he founded and edited The Art Journal in which he exposed the trade ill bogus "Old Masters." His wife, Anna Maria Fielding (1800-81), became well known as Mrs. S. C. Hall, for her numer ous novels, sketches of Irish life, and plays.
