HARVEY, SIR GEORGE (1806-1876), Scottish painter, son of a watchmaker, was born at St. Ninians, near Stirling, and died at Edinburgh on Jan. 22, 1876. He became a fellow of the Royal Scottish academy in 1829, and :ts president in 1864. Harvey painted some pictures on subjects drawn from religious and Scottish history, but his best work is in genre pictures of Scottish life.
