HONEY DEW, a secretion consisting of exudations of sugar from the leaves of various trees under certain atmospheric condi tions. It is usually the result of a superfluity of sap, but may also be produced by the puncture of certain insects (Aphides, q.v.); the latter condition constitutes a form of plant disease.
