HUICHOL. This tribe in the mountains of northern Jalisco is one of the few in Mexico that has preserved not only its speech and race but its native religions and culture relatively uncontami nated by conquest and contact. They practise the peyote cult; their decorative and ritual symbolism is rich. They are, with the neighbouring Cora, members of the so-called Piman or Sonoran division of the Uto-Aztecan family. They number somewhat over, and the Cora somewhat under, 3,000.
