JACOB, born at Antwerp in 1633 and apprenticed to Frans Wouters in 165o, came to England towards the close of the reign of Charles II., and competed with Lely as a fashionable portrait painter. Among the portraits executed by him are those of Queen Catherine of Braganza, and of Izaak Walton, now in the National Portrait Gallery. He died in London in 1696.
