VELEZ DE GUEVARA, LUIS ( , ) , Spanish dramatist and novelist, was the author of over 400 plays, of which the best known are Reinar despues de morir and 'lids pesa el rey que la sangre. He won considerable fame as the author of El Diablo cojuelo (1641), a fantastic novel which suggested to Le Sage the idea of his Diable boiteux.
