VILLA DEL PILAR, a city of Paraguay, 104 m. south of Asuncion, on the left bank of the navigable river Paraguay. Pop.
(1933 est.) 7,888. Villa del Pilar is a thriving city, containing barracks, law courts, a national college, several schools and a branch of the Agricultural Bank. It is in a district producing tobacco, yerba mate, hides and oranges. It has a good harbour and is served by steamer and by the Paraguay Central railway.
