WHITMAN, a town of Plymouth county, Massachusetts, U.S.A., 20 m. S. by E. of Boston. adjoining Brockton; served by the New York, New Haven and Hartford railroad. Pop. (1920) 7,147 ; 1930 it was 7,638. The town of South Abington was I formed in 1875 from parts of Abington and East Bridgewater and in 1886 it changed its name to Whitman.
