Workington

WORKINGTON, a seaport in Cumberland, England, 34 m. S.W. of Carlisle. Pop. (1931) 24,691. It stands on the river Derwent, and the Lonsdale dock is 41 ac. in extent, with a depth of 27 ft. at spring tide. There are large collieries (some work ings extend beneath the sea), and blast furnaces, engineering works, cycle and motor works, shipbuilding yards and paper mills. Near the town is the castellated Workington Hall.
