BLANFORD, WILLIAM THOMAS Eng lish geologist and naturalist, was born in London. He was on the staff of the Geological Survey of India and was later engaged in the coalfield near Talchir, where boulders considered to have been ice-borne were found in the Talchir strata—a discovery con firmed by subsequent observations of other geologists.
