BAUDISSIN, WOLF HEINRICH, COUNT (I 789-1878), German man of letters, was born in Rantzau on Jan. 3o, 1789, and died at Dresden on April 4, 1878. As secretary to the lega tion, he was employed by the Danish diplomatic service, between 1810-14; on missions to Stockholm, Vienna and Paris. In 1827, after travelling in Italy, France and Greece, Baudissin settled at Dresden and began to write. In collaboration with Schlegel and Tieck he translated many of Shakespeare's plays into German. Ben Jonson and seine Schule, 2 vols. (Leipzig, 1836), contains translations of old English drama. He translated plays from Politik,, Kultur and Auf klarung des i8ten Jahrhunderts (4 vols.) (Leipzig, 1865-67) and two plays by Coppee, Zwei dramatiscite Dichtungen (Leipzig, 1874)•
