BURNET, the name given to various species of Poterium, a genus of the rose family. The plants are perennial herbs with pinnate leaves and small flowers arranged in dense long-stalked heads. Great burnet (Poterium officinale) is found in damp mead ows; salad burnet (P. Sanguisorba) is a smaller plant growing in dry pastures.
