BROCKDORFF-RANTZAU, ULRICH, COUNT VON (1869-1928), German diplomatist, was born in Slesvig Nord, May 2g 1869. He entered the diplomatic service in 1894. From 2909 to 1912 he was consul-general at Budapest, and from 1912 to 1918 German minister at Copenhagen. On Dec. 20 1918, he was appointed secretary of State for foreign affairs, in which capacity he led the German delegation at the Peace Conference at Versailles in April 1919. Unwilling to advise the German Government to accept the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, he resigned on June 20. In 1922 he was appointed German am bassador in Moscow. He died while on leave in Berlin on Sept.

8, 1928.
