DANAO, a municipality (with administration centre and 45 barrios or districts) of the province and island of Cebu, Philip pine islands, on the east coast, at the mouth of the Danao river, 17 m. N.N.E. of Cebu, the provincial capital. Pop. (1918) 22,581, of whom only 9 were whites. It is in the centre of a rich agricultural region producing rice, corn, sugar, copra and cacao. Coal is mined in the vicinity. In 1918, it had five manu facturing establishments with an output valued at 218,90o pesos; five small sugar-mills; and 23o household industry establish ments with output valued at 47,30o pesos. Of the seven schools, five were public. The language spoken is Cebu-Bisayan.
