DECORAH, a city of north-eastern Iowa, U.S.A., on the Upper Iowa river ; the county seat of Winneshiek county. It is on Federal highway 55, and is served by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific and the Rock Island railways. The population in 193o Federal census was 4,581. It is the seat of Luther college (established 1861) ; is a market for thoroughbred horses and cattle, and has several manufacturing industries. There is a fa mous ice cave near by. Decorah was founded about 1849 and was incorporated as a city in 1871.
