DELILAH, in the Bible, the heroine of Samson's last love story (Judges xvi.). She was a Philistine of Sorek (mod. Surik), west of Zorah, who, bribed by the "lords of the Philistines" to entrap him, coaxed him (after several failures) into telling her the secret of his strength, whereupon she took advantage of his con fidence to incapacitate him and betray him to his enemies.
