DENIZEN, a dweller; a stranger admitted to certain rights in a foreign country; in England, an alien who obtains by letters patent (ex donatione regis) privileges of a British subject. By 12 and 13 Will. 3. Ch. 2 a denizen, unless born of English par ents, cannot be a member of the privy council or of parlia ment, or hold any civil or military office of trust, or take a grant of land from the Crown. The British Nationality Act, 1914, pro vides that nothing therein contained shall affect the grant of any letters of denization by the sovereign.
