DEOGHAR (known in Bengal as Baidyanath, also called Baidyanath-Deoghar), a town in the Santal Parganas district of Behar and Orissa, India. Pop. (192r) 12,355. It has a famous temple dedicated to Baidyanath or Siva, the resort of numerous pilgrims. It also enjoys a reputation as a health resort among Bengalis, many of whom have country houses here.
