DILLON, a city of south-western Montana, U.S.A., on the Beaverhead river, the Oregon Short Line railroad and Federal highway 91; the county-seat of Beaverhead county. The popula tion in 193o was 2,422. It has a very beautiful location on a tableland 5,2ooft. above sea-level, with mountains rising in every direction, and is the metropolis of an extensive farming, grazing and mining (lead and silver) region. There are grain elevators, wool warehouses and sundry factories in the city, and it is the seat of the State Normal college (established 1893). Dillon was settled about 188o and was incorporated in 1885.
