DIVIDE, a term used technically, chiefly in America, for any high ridge forming a water-parting between two valleys. For special senses of the verb "to divide" see DIVISION. In a parlia mentary sense, to divide (involving a separation between Aye and No) is to take the opinion of the House by voting on the subject bef ore it.
