DIELMANN, FREDERICK (1847-1935), American por trait and figure painter, was born at Hanover, Germany, Dec. 25, 1847. He was taken to the United States in early childhood; studied under Diez at the Royal Academy at Munich; was first an illustrator, and became a distinguished draughtsman and painter of genre pictures. His mural decorations and mosaic panels for the Congressional library, Washington, are notable. He was elected in 1899 president of the National Academy of Design, and served until 1909. From 1910 to 1915 he was president of the Fine Arts Federation of New York. From 1903 to 1918 he was professor of art at the College of the City of New York. In 1905 he was appointed art director of Cooper Union, New York.
