DENISON, GEORGE TAYLOR Canadian soldier, and publicist, was born in Toronto on Aug. 31, 1839, and died there on June 6, 1925. In 186 i he was called to the bar. He saw active service during the Fenian raid of 1866, and during the rebellion of 1885. In 1877 he was appointed police magistrate of Toronto. Col. Denison was one of the founders of the "Canada First" party. He was a member of the Royal Society of Canada, and was president of the section dealing with English history and literature. His best-known military work is the History of Modern Cavalry (1877) which was awarded first prize by the Russian Government in an open competition and has been translated into German, Russian and Japanese. In r9O0 he published his reminis cences under the title of Soldiering in Canada.
