DODERLEIN, LUDWIG ), German philolo gist, born at Jena on Dec. 19, 1791, son of J. C. Doderlein, pro fessor of theology; studied at Munich, Heidelberg, Erlangen and Berlin. He lectured on philology at Berne (1815-19), and Er langen (1819), where he died on Nov. 9, 1863. He is best known by his Lateinische Synonymen and Etymologien (1826-1838), and his Homerisches Glossarium (1850-58).
