DELLA BELLA, STEFANO known in France as ETIENNE DE LA BELLE, Italian engraver, was born at Florence. He was apprenticed to a goldsmith ; but turned his attention to engraving, and studied the art under Canta Gallina. By the liberality of Lorenzo de' Medici he was enabled to spend three years in study at Rome. In 1642 he went to Paris, where Cardinal Richelieu engaged him to make drawings at Arras of the siege and taking of that town by the royal army. About 1650 he returned to Florence. His productions numbered over 1,400 separate pieces. His masterpiece is the view of the Pont Neuf in Paris.
