DANNAT, WILLIAM T. (1853-1929), American artist, was born in New York city in 1853. He was a pupil of the Royal Academy of Munich and of Munkacsy, and became an accom plished draughtsman and a distinguished figure and portrait paint er. He early attracted attention with sketches and pictures made in Spain, and a large composition, "The Quartette," now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, was one of the suc cesses of the Paris Salon of 1884. Dannat settled in Paris; he is represented in the Luxembourg, was president of the Paris Society of American Painters, and a member of the National In stitute of Arts and Letters. He died in France on March r2, 1929.
