EDWARDS, ALFRED GEORGE first arch bishop of Wales, was born at Llanymawddwy on Nov. 2, 1848, and was educated at Jesus college, Oxford. He was ordained in 1874, and in 1875 became warden and headmaster of the college at Llandovery, holding this position until 1885, when he was appointed vicar of Carmarthen. In 1889 he was chosen bishop of St. Asaph. From 1920, after the disestablishment, which he had actively opposed, of the Welsh Church, until 1934, he was arch bishop of Wales. He died on July 22, 1937.
