a halting-place in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan near the coast of the Red sea, 9 m. S.W. of the port of Trinkitat on the road to 'Tokar. There were two battles there in 1884. In the first, on Feb. 4, a heterogenous Egyptian force under Baker Pasha was destroyed by the Sudanese tribesmen under Osman Digna.
