The Warped Shells

THE WARPED SHELLS Genus DISTORSIO, Bolt.

This genus differs from Triton in its distorted spire, and its irregular, contracted, thin, flaring aperture. It has three species 53 The Tritons and Frog Shells distributed widely in warm seas. D. cancellinus, Roissy, is the type.

D. anus,

Linn., has a very small aperture, from which the enameled lips flare into a white ruffled border, almost as wide as the body of the shell. There is scarcely any canal. The surface

is cancellated, with brown bands on a white ground. Length, 2 to 3 inches.

Habitat.— Red Sea Indian Ocean, Philippines.
